The Top 8 Envato WordPressProducts From 2011

Posted on by in Blog

Envato recently announced the top 5 selling products from each of their marketplaces. As expected, the top 5 selling designs on their flagship ThemeForest marketplace were WordPress themes, with the top selling theme selling over 10,000 copies.

3 of the top 5 selling products on their code and plugin marketplace CodeCanyon are WordPress plugins. This is a good indication of more WordPress users willing to pay in order to get high quality plugins for their site.

So what themes and plugins sold well on Envato marketplaces in 2011?

ThemeForest

Each of the top 5 selling themes was either a corporate style theme or a portfolio design for photographers. This is no surprise given that there are more themes of this kind than any other type.

1. U-Design

There are 11 widget areas in total on the home page which makes it very easy to customise the home page easily. There is also 12 custom sidebars and over a dozen page templates for portfolios, contact forms and a blog index. A full width template and sitemap is included too.

CodeCanyon

There are a few places to get premium WordPress plugins though CodeCanyon remains the best with new plugins being added every week. 2 of the top 5 selling products were Javascript files, the other 3 were WordPress plugins.

6. UberMenu
Regular License: $16

One of my favourite plugins from 2011, UberMenu completely transforms your WordPress menu from a simple drop down navigation menu. It allows you to images and descriptions to your menus, place menus in multiple columns and add widgets. There are over 20 preset styles to choose from. Alternatively, you can create your own style using the style generator.

7. RoyalSlider
Regular License: $20

A great looking slider plugin that has support for mobile devices. You can hardcode the slider into a template or input multiple sliders into the one post or page. I expect that TouchCarousel, the new slider plugin from developer Dmitry Semenov will be one of the top selling plugins in 2012.

It will be interesting to see what themes and plugins will top the list next year. Will we still see business and portfolio style themes dominate the marketplace? Only time will tell.

Do you own any of these themes or plugins? If so, I’d love to hear your opinion on them so please leave a comment if you have time.

Also, I encourage you to check out the full list of winners at the Envato Awards page :)

Thanks,
Kevin
