I think it’s safe to say that we’d all like more comments on our blogs or websites. However, some sections or types of sites are not best complimented with comments. A perfect example might be that you have a custom post type you’ve created that you’ve designed to be a standalone resource or call to action. Since this post type is not necessarily a blog post, you might want to turn off comments on that post type altogether in order to assure that you don’t miss disabling comments with each new post of that post type. Confused yet? If you are, I’m sorry, but chances are if you’re running into this problem then you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Thankfully, there’s a plugin for that. It’s called (aptly enough) Disable Comments. Now, as they point out in their description text – this plugin is not for those who want to disable comments on individual posts. This is for those who want to disable comments altogether OR on specific post types. Here’s how you do it.
Installing Disable Comments Plugin
So the first step is going to the WordPress.org plugin directory and downloading the Disable Comments plugin. Next go to your WordPress admin > Plugins > Add New > Upload and install the plugin via the zipped folder you just downloaded.
Once installed and activated you will notice this new option under your sidebar’s Settings menu. Click on it.
Configuring Disable Comments Plugin
As you can see below the Settings page allows you to disable comments with a few clicks on whichever sections on your site have comments on them. In my image I don’t have any custom post types created but if I did they would show up in the checkbox list and I’d be able to globally disable comments there.
I found this plugin really easy to install and configure. If you have a website or sections of your site that don’t need comments then this plugin might be for you. I personally have never needed this exact function so I’m really sort of unaware of what else is out there. If you’ve tried something else please let us know what you tried and how it worked out!
