Double WordCamp Weekend: Birmingham and Grand Rapids

Posted on by in Blog

This weekend will feature dual WordCamps that will take place simultaneously: one in Birmingham, Alabama and the other in Grand Rapids, Michigan. WordCamp Central Coordinator Andrea Middleton entered a blog post earlier this week informing WordPress enthusiasts that “WordCamp Birmingham is boiling over with WordPress content – three tracks on Saturday and Sunday. With sessions on everything from responsive design to the legal aspects of blogging to WordPress and the command line, WordPress enthusiasts are sure to learn a lot and have a great time, too. Tickets are still available.”

Regarding the Grand Rapids, Michigan WordCamp, Middleton added that “there’s a lot of WordPress happening in Grand Rapids, come Saturday. WordCamp Grand Rapids attendees will enjoy 4 tracks of content on Saturday: Publisher, Business, Developer, and Themer. Learn about 13 WP mistakes to avoid as well as why you should stop making things pretty and start designing. Then on Sunday, they’re hosting a Contributor Day, with room for experienced and new contributors to the WordPress project. If you’re in the neighborhood, you can still buy a ticket and totally should.”

Both the Regular and Student include full access to all of the weekend’s meetings, a lunch ticket for Saturday, a “WP Y’all” t-shirt, an invitation to the WordCamp After Party, as well as a ticket to the Pre Camp Mixer. Those wishing to secure a Student Pass must present a valid student identification at time of registration.

The Personal VIP Pass comes with all of the above along with a Tweet thanking that personal for his/her sponsorship, VIP perks, and an email thanking that person for supporting the WordCamp. There is also an invitation to the VIP Party added to the $150 fee. There is a “Meet & Greet” session Friday evening, with all of the main activities set for August 24th and 25th at the Harbert Center2019 4th Ave N #100 Birmingham, AL 35203.

WordCamp Grand Rapids 2013

Grand Valley State University will be the site for the 2013 WordCamp Grand Rapids. Tickets are available from a $20 General Admission pass to the $250 Business Sponsorship option. There is also a Personal VIP ticket available for the price of $100. As of Thursday afternoon, there were only a few remaining tickets available for each category, so interested parties are encouraged to secure their passes at the earliest convenience.

The official WordCamp Grand Rapids Website states, “WordCamps are informal, community-organized events that focus on everything WordPress, put together by local WordPress enthusiasts. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other. They are a lot of fun.”

There are still well over a dozen WordCamps on tap for the remainder of 2013, including events in Los Angeles, Tokyo, Sofia, Boston, London and Kenya.

Middleton has been in charge of overall WordCamp coordination for approximately two years and has been instrumental in working with committees to create guidelines on event organization as well as tips for organizers. Thanks to hardware sharing programs, equipment is often shipped from one organizer to another so it can be shared throughout several meetings and seminars; thus avoiding excessive overhead that would be incurred if hardware had to be purchased separately for each WordCamp.
