Today I’d like to share with you a simple WordPress plugin called WP Really Simple Health. The plugin displays simple information about your WordPress website in your admin bar. It displays the uptime of your server, amount of RAM being used and CPU load.
There’s a settings page but there’s not much to it. It allows you to switch off each of the 3 options. This is useful if you only want to see one or two of the options available though I suspect most users want to see all 3.
I like the way that all 3 items are discretely tucked away in your admin bar. It means the information is always there for your reference but won’t get in the way of you working.
Tiberius14, who developed WP Really Simple Health, got in touch with me about this plugin around 3 weeks ago. I was initially hesitant to review it as I didn’t think there was much to the plugin but he was simultaneously polite and persistent so I gave in and tried the plugin out. My initial impression of the plugin wasn’t wrong, there really isn’t much to WP Really Simple Health.
I have still found the plugin very useful though. During the week WP Mods was very slow due to a burst of traffic. As a result of this I took the advise of my hosting company and upgraded to a higher package. I’ve installed WP Really Simple Health on WP Mods so that I can easily monitor uptime and the performance of the server at any time. The uptime statistic is particularly useful for me because I enjoy travelling so much. Many times when I’ve been away from the computer for a few days I’ve been completely unaware that my server was down temporarily. Now all I have to do is check the uptime figure to know whether my server has been down at any time.
The only negative with using the plugin is it takes up around 40% of the admin bar so if you have other plugins adding information to your admin bar (e.g. W3 Total Cache, Yoast SEO, Cloudflare etc), you may find your admin bar a little crowded.
WP Really Simple Health isn’t a vital plugin or one which adds new functionality to your WordPress website however those of you who want a quick and easy way of checking the performance of your server should try it out.
