5 Must Watch Videos From WordPress.TV

in Blog

So lately I’ve been attempting to develop a new habit: watching at least 1-2 videos a week at WordPress.TV. As someone who uses WordPress every single day to make my living, staying intimately plugged in to the WordPress community (outside of my own projects) is extremely important. But even if you’re brand new to the platform (or anywhere in-between) WordPress.TV is a great resource full of helpful and extremely interesting videos on and about WordPress. Below I’ve listed 5 that I would highly recommend checking out when you have the time.

5 Must Watch Videos From WordPress.TV

1. State of the Word 2012

If you missed Matt Mullenweg’s State of the Word address at this year’s San Francisco WordCamp it’s still available to view at your convenience. In this approximately 50 minute talk Matt (the co-founder of WordPress) succinctly lays out an overview of WordPress as of 2012 and gives us a really good idea of where things are headed in the future.

2. Matt Mullenweg – Town Hall Q & A

Once again, we have a great 40-some-odd-minute video of WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg discussing WordPress. The difference here though is that now Matt is taking questions in a town hall style from the Portland 2012 WordCamp. Matt covers a lot of great material here and once again this talk will really help you feel connected to what’s happening with WordPress right now.

3. Grant Landram: How to Build a Professional WordPress Business

In this talk from the Portland 2012 WordCamp, Grant Landram explains how to build a professional WordPress business. The talks official description is as follows:

“For those using WordPress as a driver of your business, whether you build products, help small clients, or work with large corporations, there are a unique set of issues you tend to experience. This session will help demystify the traits commonly found in successful WordPress businesses of all sizes, and identify common pitfalls to avoid, and actionable best practices you can apply to your business.”

4. How to Get Paid What You’re Worth

In this talk from the Sydney 2012 WordCamp speaker Troy Dean talks about how you can get paid what you’re worth by setting yourself apart from the crowd. It’s official description is as follows:

“The presentation teaches how to differentiate yourself from all the other web developers and how to add heaps of value to your clients projects so you can charge the fees you deserve.

Troy Dean is passionate about simplifying the Internet to deliver real business outcomes.

He has worked with hundreds of clients and helped them get measurable results for their business. He managed the online strategy for Jessica Watson, the 16 year-old Australian girl who sailed around the world, and helped FebFast raise over $1 million in 2011 and 2012 for the drug and alcohol sector.”

5. Laura Kimball: How To Blog Once A Day

This engaging talk from speaker Laura Kimball at the Portland 2012 WordCamp is great for anyone who feels volume challenged in the content department. While there is no official description for this talk the title says it all. If you’re looking to blog consistently this is the video for you.

Final Thought

In closing, I’m really enjoying this new habit and I hope you benefit from watching these videos too. Being a part of the WordPress community and ecosystem is all about inspiring each other to do better, to be better, and to make WordPress and online publishing as a whole better. I’m finding that WordPress.TV is an awesome place to plug in and do just that. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments!
