WordPress.com announced Thursday that it is adding three new premium themes to its catalog selection. All three can be instantly installed onto your WordPress site via the Appearance > Themes tab from the Dashboard area.
Blocco, Crafty, and Hustle Express all run as Content Management Systems and have varied default capabilities for image posting, separate pages and multimedia entries.
Blocco WordPress Theme
The Blocco WordPress theme was created by Press75.com and allows posts to be published on the homepage as “blocks” that can be individually clicked on to go through to the full entry. LightBox effects are used to enhance any image that is currently being moused-over, plus the theme can be configured to display a separate photo or text before the front-end user clicks on it.
According to WordPress.com, “photo posts in Blocco utilize the Featured Image functionality in WordPress to showcase an individual photograph within each “block” and at the top of each single post. Video posts do the same by showcasing your video perfectly at the to of each single video post.”
Due to its fully responsive design, Blocco can be easily viewed from a smart phone or tablet computer without having to horizontally thumb-scroll one’s way through an entire page. The unique layout gives mobile device visitors a reason to remain on your website to view its content.
Blocco’s unique side navigation tab strays away from traditional methods but still grants readers the ability to reach of all your website’s important categorical content including contact pages and social media feeds.
The second theme released Thursday is Crafty, which is based off of the popular CraftyCart download. Designed mainly for blogging, Crafty boasts a left-hand sidebar and multiple post formats to make publication of your news an easy task to perform without ever having to touch a line of code.
If you click on the WordPress Dashboard Appearance > Themes tab, you can immediately preview this theme and see if it provides a proper fit for your site’s needs. There is a logo section at the top-left along with plenty of room to insert recent comments, advertisements and social media feeds within the widgetized sidebar.
HTML shortcodes can be incorporated to add more features to your content such as alert boxes, columned text and video posts.
Hustle Express is a premium upgrade for blog sites that is specifically designed for writers who are on the go. The main feed on the homepage includes a circular thumbnail image, post title, publication date, author name, category, and tag designation slot.
The Hustle Express theme features its sidebar on the right-hand side by default and allows widget insertion for author info, social media links, search function, and more.
WordPress Community Chimes In
Four WordPress.com users had left comments within the first few hours of the new themes’ official release. David Bennett remarked that his “reaction to Crafty is that it is nice and quirky except for the typeface in the text logo, which looks decidedly amateurish.”
TeePee12 replied, “I am really enjoying playing around with themes. Some work for me, others definitely don’t … but having such a huge choice is really great. I’m so happy with my current theme (Selecta) that I think I won’t really be changing for a while … but I admit each time you come out with new ones, I have to give them each a test drive!”
Smash replied that he thinks highly of the Crafty color scheme and is satisfied with the new themes and added that they may tempt him away from his current template.
