Add a Social Media Toolbar to your website with Insite Bar

in Blog

Insite Bar is a service from Virtual Web which allows you to add a social media bar to the top of your website. They recently released a WordPress plugin which makes it easier to add the bar to your website, so I thought I’d give you all a preview today.

The default bar has a Facebook Like button and Retweet button integrated. There is also a translation button, speech application and search bar which allows you to search your site using Google.

When a user clicks on the ‘Share Marked Elements’ button they are given more options for sharing the article including Google Buzz, Delicious and StumbleUpon.

You don’t need to stick to the default applications. There are thousands to choose from so you can change your bar to suit your sites needs. The service is also optimised to run on iphones, ipads and android devices.

I prefer social media options to be integrated into the page itself though there’s no denying that the bar could prove useful for certain websites, particularly as you can customise the bar to suit your needs.

I built a bunch of toolbars on and I think they work a lot better than using bookmarks or sites like delicious. a toolbar with links to social media resources, sites, dashboards, apps etc a toolbar for twitter apps, sites etc a toolbar for mobile app development, phone reviews, carriers

Cool thing is I can link the toolbars so if someone downloads one they can rotate the bars from category to category without taking up additional space.

Not seen any popups here. You sure your computer and/or browser is in good shape? ;) Speaking of security it might be an idea to check out the level of those making the toolbar. I don’t know this one at all but seems like there is an opening for something questionable. What info they receive?, tracking? and such details. He/she who install should know answers to this.

I disagree [email protected] Many sites could become less noisy with a toolbar, may be with an auto-hide feature. This site is not bad but some are horrid with a bunch of social icons all over the place – and in your face. Or some have done deep thinking and figured it is way cool if a row of icons follow you as you scroll down. No it is stupid and seems like whoring out for clicks to me. Toolbar is more functional and less intrusive. Of course depends on what it is filled up with. If overdone and irrelevant it will be very noticeable in a bad way.

I imagine there is a high degree of usability and recognition from visitors. I bet a sane toolbar will be used more than old buttons.

All toolbars suck and are a pain it the you know what for bosses and system administrators. I don’t care if they are installed or embeded in the website itself.

If a website presents me with any toolbar that is not relative to the content of the website I am outta there without even a second look. The popup here is an example of what I am talking about. I hate closing the stupid things. It this was for anything other than an objection I would just have left the site.

I counted no less than three links to facebook, do you think that’s enough? Maybe you should have 20. You know I may have missed the first 19 if I was in a hurry.

There are no pop ups on WP Mods so I don’t know what you are talking about.

I am not a huge fan of Facebook but there’s no changing the fact that it’s the most popular site on the web just now and the platform which most people use to share articles they like.

This is why there is 1 share link at the bottom of each WP Mods article. We also have a link to our facebook page at the top of the sidebar and underneath blog posts – this allows people to get updates of our latest posts through Facebook.
