Roo Link Directory is a premium plugin that lets you easily insert a business link directory anywhere in your WordPress powered website. It powers the Irish link directory Roo!, which is where it name comes from.
The plugin is very easy to customise. You can set the categories per row and choose whether you want the number of links in each category to be shown. The order that links are displayed can also be changed.
Links can be opened in the same window or in a new browser window. You can display Google PageRank for each link and whether out going links have the nofollow tag attached to them. Another useful feature is the ability to only allow one link per domain. This is useful for stopping multiple submissions however it can restrict submissions from hosted services such as WordPress.com or Blogger.
The directory automatically checks that websites in your directory have linked back or not. You can choose whether reciprocal links are required or not. The great thing about this feature is that you can require link backs from everybody or only from websites with a certain PageRank.
There are three settings available for accepting links into your directory. You can accept all links automatically, manually approve all link submissions or automatically accept links that have met your link back requirements.
Fields such as name, email and phone number can be shown or hidden in the submission form and you can set the maximum number of characters for link descriptions too. In my opinion, less is more, as browsing a link directory with long descriptions isn’t very practical.
The ‘Add URL’ page has everything you need. There is even an option for shops to enter their opening hours. Unfortunately, there is no capability to add your own custom fields, something which I think would really improve the plugin.
It tracks incoming and outgoing links too and there are two colour schemes included with the plugin.
Roo Link Directory is HTML5 compliant and has a lot of great features. The great thing about Roo Link Directory is that it can be added directly into your existing design.
Featured websites have a star icon attached to their listings and have a different background colour to distinguish them from other links. There’s also a map icon to let you know which listings have maps attached to them.
I think the style of the directory listing pages could be styled a little better however the information page for each website is really good. It shows a QR barcode, thumbnail and website address for each website. The map integration feature works really well. Not only does it make it easy for visitors to see the company/service that is listed, you can also enter your own address in order to get directions there.
Keeping your link directory is very straight forward. You can modify details of multiple links from one page, rather than having to change each one individually.
Categories can be modified quickly in the same way. You can change the parent category from this page too.
Roo Link Directory is one of the easiest ways of inserting a business directory directly into your existing website. It was updated a few days ago with a lot of great new features such as the ability for visitors to leave comments and ratings on links, a dashboard help page and an improved contact form.
I recommend checking it out if you are thinking of adding a link directory to your site. A regular license for Roo Link Directory retails for $16 from CodeCanyon.
