Photum – A Minimal Free Photography WordPress Theme

in Blog

Oli from WP Lift recently released a great free photography design for WordPress called Photum. The theme was designed using HTML5 and is responsive so looks great on all browsers and devices.

It’is a minimalist design with everything geared towards showing photos in the best way. The home page shows the latest photos in a grid. Hovering over a photo will show you the name of the photo, the date it was published on your site, the category it was placed in and an option to leave a comment.

Basic information about each photo is displayed such as the camera that was used, the location the photo was taken, the date it was taken and the tags and categories it is attached too. A full description of the photo is placed underneath and thumbnails of other photographs are shown underneath.

The theme has its own blog template too. It looks very similar to the template that is used to show regular photo however it includes a widgetized sidebar at the right hand side of the page.

Photom also has a basic options area in which you can upload your logo and add your Google Analytics tracking code. It doesn’t have social media integration though I don’t particularly mind this as it means you can integrate social media icons manually wherever you want manually or via a WordPress plugin.

There are more advanced photo designs out there however Photum’s simplicity is sure to prove popular with a lot of photographers. It’s free to download so I encourage you to check it out if you are looking for a good way of showcasing your photographs online.
