Envato’s Most Wanted Program Moves Toward Wedding Themes

in Blog

The Most Wanted program hosted by ThemeForest.net parent company Envato released its latest bounty offering on Monday. From now through April 22nd, WordPress theme and site template builders will be able to claim a portion of $4,000 in prizes by submitting uploaded content to the WordPress > Entertainment > Events or Site Templates > Entertainment > Events categories within the marketplace.

Envato.com Growth Officer Shane Freer posted the contest details in an official community forum thread on ThemeForest, saying that the company is “putting a $4,000 bounty on the heads of Envato’s most wanted file type – Wedding Themes & Templates on ThemeForest. The first 5 x WordPress themes & 10 x site templates uploaded (and subsequently approved) each get $400 for WordPress themes & $200 for site templates (with a maximum 2 prizes per author. Any combination of WP or site templates).”

Wedding Themes And Templates

If you’ve shopped for WordPress themes on the ThemeForest market before, then you are aware that a “Theme” is defined as a WordPress file. For each theme, additional information is provided in the sidebar of the product. If the info includes a Software Version with WordPress compatibility, then your file is classified as a Theme. On the other hand, Site Templates do not have a WordPress Content Management System and cannot be installed on a WordPress site.

Wedding themes have attracted quite a bit of attention in recent years as engaged couples with little to no programming experience seek a method for informing friends and family about circumstances related to an upcoming event. Functionality for wedding themes often includes a “His & Her” area for blogging along with an RSVP form; allowing the couple to more easily manage logistics, lodging, and attendance for rehearsals, weddings and receptions.

Contest Rules & Community Feedback

In order to be eligible for prize collection, developers must fill out the Most Wanted Entry Agreement Form stating that you or your company will keep all winning items available for sale on the marketplace for a minimum of 2 years.

Winners will be formally announced some time in early May with the prize money scheduled to go out approximately 3 weeks after the final entry deadline date of April 22nd.

There have already been 30 replies to the forum thread in the first 24 hours, with many developers informally throwing their hat into the ring or asking simple questions related to the bounty program. One forum poster who goes by the name girlscancode asked whether she can submit a WordPress version of her current HTML wedding template. Freer from Envato subsequently replied that the submission would be acceptable. However, Joomla templates will not be accepted for the contest. Contestants can check the status of winning entries by frequently visiting the relevant marketplace category pages.

Forum poster sameerptnk informed readers that he is designing his first WordPress theme, which coincidentally happens to be a wedding-related product.

Bounty Program Concept

By specifically rewarding developers who place niche products on the ThemeForest marketplace, Envato has successfully added VirtueMart Templates, e-Commerce Themes and other downloadable content to its catalog; in turn filling high-demand sales categories in a timely manner.

The prize money generally provides an extra incentive for programmers to come up with material that fits a current need that the company would like to fill as soon as possible while also encouraging WordPress community interaction. Some items, such as the U-Design WordPress Theme (shown below), have accrued well over $1 million in total revenue and over 20,000 purchase requests.
