Create a Small Membership Website with Membership Lite

in Blog

Membership Lite is a limited version of WPMUDev’s premium membership plugin Membership.

The lite version of the plugin has all the features of the premium version however it only supports two levels of membership and two levels of subscription.

Membership Lite is pretty straight forward. You can create different membership levels easily by dragging, dropping and setting the rules the member can have.

Rules can be set for which area of the site the member can access i.e. which pages, posts and categories they can view. Downloads can be set too and members can have shortcode privileges if necessary e.g. to allow them to embed videos or galleries in posts and comments.

The type of subscription a member gets (i.e. the member level they get) can be set in the subscriptions area. It can be set so that a member starts off on one subscription and then upgrades to another subscription after a set period of time.

PayPal is the only payment gateway that the plugin works with though many similar membership plugins are the same so it’s difficult to criticise membership lite about this.

If you are looking for a simple way of restricting content to certain people then it’s worth trying it out. It isn’t the most advanced member plugins available but should be more than sufficient for those of you who just want to restrict content to a certain user group.

More information can be found at the link below.

Good luck,

I’m a big fan of the ‘freemium’ model. It allows you to try a premium prioduct and use it for free but for extra support, documentation and add ons it costs a bit more – which I understand as the developer needs to be able to make ends meet and justify the work he puts in :)

Admittedly, it would be frustrating if you had to pay $79 and you only wanted to know one small thing :)

The only drawback with this is that the installation and setup info that comes with the plugin is sketchy and the author directs you back to the development site where you have to pay $79 to get the installation manual. Am glad it’s pretty easy to figure out although am sure people have paid for help.
