I was browsing the web the other day when I came across an intriguing WordPress plugin called Pop Up Domination – a plugin which claimed to increase newsletter opt in rates by up to 304%. I contacted the owner James Deer and he was kind enough to send me a review copy of the plugin so that I could give you all a preview :)
As most of you know, email marketing is one of the best ways of making money on the web. Unlike an RSS feed, which has to be read through a newsreader, newsletters can be delivered right to someones inbox. Which is why it’s such a powerful marketing tool.
Pop Up Domination helps you greatly increase your newsletter sign up rate by placing a pop up message over your content. I’m not a huge method of this kind of marketing or any other kind which forces a message to the visitor, though you cannot argue with the success that marketers and bloggers have had with this technique.
With Pop Up Domination you can set the number of days before the message is displayed again so if you are concerned about annoying your users you should set this to 30 days or more.
Designing Your Pop Up Form
You can create your own pop up template if you wish though there are 4 great templates included with the plugin:
Each template comes in 14 colours: Blue, Bright Blue, Bright Green, Bright Orange, Bright Red, Bright Turquoise, Bright Purple, Dark Blue, Grape, Green, Orange, Red, Turquoise and Black.
The template can easily be changed within the settings area of WordPress at the touch of a button. The colour of the form button can also be changed from here (8 colours available).
Customising Your Pop Up Form
Once you have chosen your template you need to add the HTML code for your email sign up form. It’s setup to work with the most popular newsletter broadcasters such as Aweber and MailChimp however it will work with any provider.
The plugin automatically finds the Name, Email and Form URL fields from the HTML code.
In the template fields page you customise the title and header, security note, default values for the name and email fields, and the submit button text.
The plugin is setup so you can easily add list points to your pop up message. This is a great way to encourage users to sign up as it allows you to emphasise the benefits of signing up.
The advanced section lets you change the PHP and CSS code for each template so that you can tweak the form to suit your website. If you are looking for something different you can always start from scratch and create your own template.
There is no doubt that pop up messages are the best way to increase sign up rates to your newsletter or email list and Pop Up Domination is a very quick and easy way to do just that. Therefore I recommend checking it out if you are looking to build your newsletter list.
The plugin currently retails for $37 and comes with a 60 day money back guarantee. If there is any aspect of the plugin I haven’t covered or been clear about please let me know and I’ll do my best to clarify it.
