I’m sure I’m not alone in wishing for a product like ShopEat. I think it’s safe to assume that if you regularly look up recipes online you’ve wished for a seamless way to get the recipe from the screen to a shopping list – preferably on your phone. Now, there is! And not only are you personally able to enjoy this free service, but thanks to the ShopEat WordPress plugin you are able to offer the readers of your site this same convenience.
And all the food bloggers rejoiced!
Installing the ShopEat Plugin
To offer the convenience of ShopEat on your blog or site you’ll first need to download the plugin from the WordPress Plugin Directory and install it. So go ahead and download the zipped file from WordPress.org and open up your WordPress Admin. Go to Plugins > Add New > Upload and install ShopEat. Now, just in case this proves to be the same with you as it was with me, I should note that I had to unzip the file I downloaded from WordPress.org and compress the folder inside titled ShopEat-Button. I was then able to successfully install that folder.
Upon successful installation and activation you will notice this new sidebar menu in your WordPress admin.
Configuring the ShopEat Plugin
The ShopEat plugin settings are pretty minimal. All you need to do is make sure the correct language is selected and then choose to restrict the plugin to posts of a certain category(s), or to add it to a certain category(s). If you select neither option you are simply able to add the ShopEat button – via the visual editor – to any post you create.
Using ShopEat on Your Site or Blog
Once you save your settings, simply create a post and on the visual editor you will see that now you have the option to include the ShopEat button on that post.
This plugin is perfect for food bloggers. I’ve been tossing around the idea of starting a food blog for a long time now and it’s plugins like this that keep nudging me closer and closer to setting one up and getting serious about it. To me, this is something that can set your blog apart from the rest. I love it. However, I’m interested in knowing what you think? Please, feel free to install this plugin, follow the instructions above, and let us know what you think.
Oh, and it should be noted that you WILL have to coach your readers on this a bit. After all, it won’t work at all if they don’t have the app on their phone. You can go to the official ShopEat website for more information.
