On Thursday, Automattic subsidiary VaultPress.com announced the launch of its all new “Lite” version which is aimed at giving WordPress website owners who are on a low budget or do not generate significant revenue an opportunity to take advantage of the security and backup software.
For those of you who generally frequent WPHub.com, you’re well aware that VaultPress is a premium service that provides security and backup to WordPress sites for a monthly fee. Among the main features is the ability to backup your content in real time. What this means is that everything a new post is published, a new comment is entered, or anything changes on your WordPress site, VaultPress is there backing that data up and archiving it. This can be especially useful in case of an emergency, security breach, or for those who at some point may need to restore lost information (which can be done via FTP, SFTP or SSH).
VaultPress also performs security scans of your WordPress site on a daily basis and is capable of recognizing many known risks as well as notifying administrators of any suspicious code. Having the software routinely perform threat assessment checks is a great way to remain briefed on any potential issues that could affect the overall status of your website. Webmasters are able to review and repair some commonly known security risks with a simple click of a mouse.
In a May 8th post published on the official VaultPress website, Joseph Scott wrote, “We know lots of you would like to use VaultPress for site backups, but need a lower price point. Today, we’re happy to announce the new Lite plan for VaultPress. Priced at $5 per month, it makes reliable backups accessible for sites big and small.
The VaultPress Lite plan provides all the fundamentals you need to keep your awesome content safe and sound: Daily backups that happen automatically, so you can focus on creating, not logistics. Automated site restores, so you can restore your entire site with a single click [and] thirty days of saved backups, so you can go back in time to restore the last clean version of your site.”
The VaultPress staff is aiming to provide a bare-bones product to those who are on a low budget but still need a reliable way to secure, scan and backup their content. At $5 per month, the service would cost only $60 per year to have a sure-fire method of restoring sensitive data and reviewing previous saved versions of your website backup files in case they are lost.
Joseph Scott added Wednesday that “as with our other VaultPress plans, backups include your WordPress database tables, plugins, themes, and uploads. You’ll also have access to our support staff — we call ‘em Happiness Engineers — should you need one-on-one assistance. By including just the critical pieces of a good backup plan, we’re able to keep the monthly cost low and make VaultPress more widely available. We hope that you’ll never need to use your VaultPress backups, but are glad we can make them available for bloggers and site owners at all levels.”
VaultPress Pricing Plans
There are three plans for those who are interested in using the VaultPress service. The “Lite” version includes daily backup, automated site restore, archives, stats and activity log as well as 30 days of backups. the “Basic” subscription is available for $15 per month and includes all of the aforementioned features along with real time backup, disaster recovery and concierge support. Finally, there is a $40 per month “Premium” service offered by VaultPress that grants priority disaster recovery/concierge support, daily security scanning, security notifications, website migration assistance and one-click fixers for security threats.
