Writing Your First WordPress Plugin

Have you ever thought about designing your own WordPress plugin? If so, I recommend checking out Pippin Williamson’s excellent 7 part series ‘How to Begin Writing Your First WordPress plugin‘.

In each part Pippin walks you through (in baby steps) exactly what you need to do in order to create your first plugin. Each part of the series contains a video in which Pippin explains what you need to do and why you need to do. Code that is mentioned in the video is displayed underneath so that you can reference it easily (and copy it). Each part also allows you to download what you have created so far in your plugin and in the final part you can download the complete plugin.

Most videos are between 5-20 minutes long. It won’t take you long to get through the whole series though it would be prudent to try what you have learned in each part of the series before moving on to the next part. This will allow you to take in everything that you have learned and ensure that you follow everything in the next tutorial.

If you’ve ever thought about developing your own WordPress plugin or if you are just curious as to what is involved in doing so, I highly recommend checking out this great series of tutorials.

Good luck,
Kevin
