WordPress Announces Community Summit 2012
On May 15, UX Lead Jane Wells, announced that WordPress will be expanding its efforts to formulate the direction and vision of the company in the coming year. To complement its annual core team meetups, WordPress will now also hold a contributor/community summit at the end of October in Tybee Island, GA.
Representatives from various WordPress contributor groups will form the nucleus of the summit which will be, according to Wells, “a combination of co-working, unconference, and discussions among the project leaders, and participation will be by invitation.”
Invitations were secured via nomination, which ensures that those who are making a difference in the WordPress community have a voice. The process aims to bring together wide-ranging points of view while at the same time keeping the small, personal atmosphere of its core team meetups in-tact.
Here are the types of entities expected to participate:
If you were hoping to get involved this year, unfortunately it’s too late; nominations are now closed. To observe and gear up for next year though, you can tune into summit activity online at WordPress.tv in October where you can expect a lively discussion and a down-to-business attitude. Those interested in just hanging out are not welcome, Wells says. “This is a working event, and everyone is expected to bring something special to the table.”
As always, we are eager to see the outcome of this new WordPress event and will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
