15 Free Translation WordPress Plugins

If you check your website traffic stats, you will no doubt find that you receive traffic from all over the world. Most of your traffic should come from countries that speak the same language your articles are written in though you should still find a large percentage of your traffic coming from around the world.

For example, Google Analytics shows that around 40% of visitors to WP Mods are based in non-English speaking countries. It looks like a lot of this traffic is coming through search engines so the visitor may have translated the content here using a service such as Google Translate. I do however believe that offering visitors the option of translating your content is worthwhile, particularly if you receive a lot of international traffic like WP Mods.

Today I would like to show you 15 free WordPress Plugins that help translate your content into other languages. I hope you enjoy the list :)

* As always, all plugins have been tested for the purpose of this review however I have not tested how reliable the translations are.

  • Hi Kevin, Thanks for featuring our GTS Translation plugin. I think that our plugin is one of the best out there. It is guaranteed to increase traffic and ad revenues. It is also one of the only plugins that does not rely on the Google API. Google is terminating the free translate API this year and most of the plugins that rely on Google will not be able to offer all of those languages. Our system is based on a self-owned server and software license and we are not dependent on anyone.

BTW you can check some of the software implemented in our plugin on http://webtranslator.gts-translation.com.

qTranslate is very good as it enables the input of professionally translated content into WordPress. If your client needs posts to be translated quickly, or if they have additional languages and don’t want to coordinate with many people, then your client can use the commercial services inside the app to buy professional translation services via the professional translation agency Live Translation. The plugin displays the price of the translation service for each post/page directly in WordPress.Translators can register to work with live translation here. The plugin helps to automate the assignment of professional translation tasks, which is very useful if the client is in a rush or has many languages to work with. qTranslate is compatible with many SEO plugins and is well maintained so it is always compatible with recent releases of WordPress.

Hi Kevin! I have to say this is a good list but I have to wonder if some, or all, of these plugins can make your site a nightmare.

I installed GT Translate last year and what it did was make thousands and thousands of translated pages – all of them with a 404 error! My site took a huge hit in rankings, my server space was huge etc…

I was thinking it might make a better article to see how each of these plugins actually behaves and will do so properly… :)

    Cheers!
