2011 was been a great year for free WordPress themes. As I researched this post I found tons of great roundups, some numbering in the hundreds. However, not all themes are created equal and I took the liberty of perusing all those post for you and picking out the best themes I found. So here, in no particular order except the order I found them in, are my top 40 free WordPress themes of 2011 (so far). I really hope that you find what you’re looking for

Nice list! But I am a bit disappointed to not see my Slim Free Theme there (http://www.wpexplorer.com/slim-wordpress-theme.html) It’s own of the only theme’s with unlimited color options and a rotating header image.

While Swiss Design and the rest of the “from MOMA digital collection” themes look great in every sense of the word, I don’t think anyone outside of art school would use them.

I think you use wrong picture for Heliumified theme. That one you use is for Harimau Malaya

Very nice collection, thanks for putting this together. I like the Clean Blog Theme by Orsted a lot but there seems to be something wrong with the linked website. Anyhow, I hope the download worked and can put this in use for one of my new blogs.
