3 WordPress Plugins That Make Your Website More Mobile Friendly
The number of people using smartphones is growing every year. Most of the budget phones being released can connect to the internet too. Put simply, the vast majority of mobile devices can connect to the internet now. Which is why it’s so important to make sure your website can be viewed properly on a mobile device.
Today I would like to show you 3 WordPress plugins that let you control how your website is viewed on portable devices. All of these plugins are free to download from the official WordPress plugin directory.
WP Mobile Detector
The first plugin I’d like to speak about is also my personal favourite. The plugin can apparently detect visitors from over 5,000 mobile phones and can detect whether someone is using a basic phone or a more advanced smartphone. If your site is using a basic phone, images will be removed. In more advanced phones the images are simply resized.
It comes with 7 pre-installed mobile themes and images and content are automatically resized depending on the mobile device your website is being showed on.
What sets WP Mobile Detector apart from other plugins is the ability to track traffic from your mobile visitors. The report shows how many visitors come from basic phones and how many from advanced phones.
WP Tap Mobile Detector
A great plugin from mobile theme developers WPTap, the plugin automatically detects mobile devices and lets you decide what theme users see. You can also redirect users to another area of your URL depending on what device they are using.
The most popular mobile devices are supported by the plugin. The only drawback to using this plugin is that you need to have a mobile theme for your site. If you don’t have one for your own design, you could download a free design such as Smooci.

Mobile Smart automatically detects mobile devices and lets you change the theme the user sees. You can also visitors change the design of your theme manually. The manual switcher can be added as a widget, template tag or directly into the footer.
Recently the plugin also added additional functionality for for the iPad, Blackberry and Android tablet devices.
