It’s been a while since we’ve posted a blog here on WPHub. Don’t think we’ve been out partying or anything like that. Instead, we’ve been busy building what we consider to be the primary hub for all things WordPress. Going forward, our goal is to write a blog updating you on the most recent news and developments at WPHub every two weeks. That way, we can keep you informed about the latest themes, top plug-ins, new services, interesting tutorials, and hottest news related to WordPress.

Ideally, WPHub will be your source for anything and everything related to WordPress. Our name really says it all.

We’ll start off this blog by pointing out that we’re about to hit 600 themes. We’re almost there, and this is definitely one milestone that has us smiling ear to ear. We work with some of the top WordPress developers around and, as we point out on our themes page, “All our premium WordPress templates have rock solid code and support. With hundreds of themes to choose from, WPHub is the largest and most respected WordPress themes gallery on the internet.”

One of our latest WordPress themes to be added is called Thesis, whose appeal comes from its flexibility. But, you would have never known that had you not visited WPHub and checked out our ever-growing “Themes” section, which you can access by clicking on that easy-to-remember six-letter word in the upper right of the site.

Other recent themes we’ve reviewed on WPHub in our march to 600 include “SimplePress,” “KingSize,” “TheStyle,” and “13Floor.” The price for each theme varies, so take a look at your budget and pick the one that best matches your wallet, desired appearance, and preferred features.

We’re adding about one new WordPress theme per day to our site right now, so you’ll always notice something new. Our goal is to be at about 750 WordPress themes reviewed by the end of 2012.

The themes aren’t the only section of WPHub you should be checking out. We’ve also been posting tutorials in a brand new section of the website. These aren’t just some instructions we slapped together in an hour and put up, either. Instead, they’re fully illustrated and will walk you through a variety of tasks you might have never thought you were capable of doing.

Our two most recent tutorials, posted on May 4th and May 11th, are “Customizing WordPress Posts by Editing the WordPress Loop” and “Formatting Tricks that Make Your WordPress Site Unique.” You’ll notice a teaser that appears on the main “Tutorials” landing page for each one to whet your whistle before you start investing time going through our tutorial. Each one is completely free, so you can hone your WordPress skills and not pay a dime for it.

Also new to WPHub is a “Services” section. We can actually help you with your own website and take care of tasks like WordPress installation and configuration, installation of any theme and plug-in you’d like, SEO, e-commerce, CMS, and affordable support for any issue you need solved.

You’ll pay between $99 and $399 for our services if you choose one of our standard plans. Our options include installing a theme for you (“Silver”), installation and basic configuration (“Platinum”), and a more involved choice for those who want WPHub to take care of it all (“Gold”). Check out our “Services” section to see what each of the three metallic-themed options include and don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions you have; we can even create a custom quote.

By the way, our staff has a considerable amount of experience designing and maintaining WordPress-based sites and we’re happy to impart as much of that knowledge as possible. Other sites we’ve created include GraphicDesign.com, IRA.com, and OnlineStorage.com if you want to give our work a once-over.

Finally, we welcome any feedback you have as we update our blog regularly. Contact us with any ideas to make WPHub your destination for all things WordPress.

If you are considering buying a new WordPress theme for 2012, you might want to get it early. The highly respected theme company ThemeFuse is running a contest for December 2011 where users will be competing in a randomly drawn raffle for cash prizes. The best part about all of this is that the theme prices will stay the same and you will automatically be entered in the process of making your purchase. The total amount of prizes up for grabs is $3000 — with the first place grand prize being a whopping $1000. You can see more about how the prizes break down here.

In case you’re wondering about looking through the WordPress Themes gallery of ThemeFuse wordpress themes, you can find them here. Our gallery of ThemeFuse themes actually automatically orders the themes by popularity in terms of sales (not ratings) so you can quickly review the most popular ThemeFuse themes.

In case you’re interested in learning more about ThemeFuse, it’s a relatively new premium WordPress Theme company that is run out of Romania. The themefuse.com domain was actually registered only in May of 2010. Despite their youth, ThemeFuse has quickly gained a reputation as a top theme maker with innovative and high quality designs.

Definitely check them out, especially when you have the chance to win $1000 or one of many other prizes!

Okay, admittedly it has been awhile since we updated the WordPressThemes.com blog. We’ve been quite busy working a bunch of new projects and initiatives all of which are exciting for us, the theme development companies and you, the webmaster/blogger/customer.

First, we’ve added hundreds of new wordpress templates reviews since our last blog post. We’ve been adding promising theme companies such as Template Monster, PressCoders and many others. We’ve also added a ton of themes from a multitude of developers via the ThemeForest website. We plan on adding a number of additional companies in the future as well.

Second, we’ve realized that we have a problem. We have too many themes for our current sorting and search system. When we had 100 or 200 templates, it was pretty easy for our users to find themes within the main categories that we have. With nearly 500 themes, that’s no longer the case. So we’ve embarked on an ambitious project to rebuild our entire site from the ground up. In the process, we will also be rebranding and expanding the site in addition to redirecting the site to a new domain. We’ll soon be featuring information on WordPress hosting, WordPress plugins and more. We’re also building in a category-leading set of theme discovery tools that outpace even the official free theme directory on WordPress.org. We’re confident that our new system will be by far the best and most efficient way for users to search for themes. This should benefit everyone involved in the process!

Third, we’re looking forward to partnering with our sister site Graphic Design on various initiatives. As the leading premium WordPress theme directory, we come across a LOT of graphic design professionals who are interested in being in the theme industry and tons of theme professionals who are interested in increasing their skills with regards to graphic design. The bottom line is that theme development requires individuals who have excellent skills in photoshop, html, css, wordpress and php. We think that, by partnering with Graphic Design, we should be able to provide industry-leading tools for designers to find graphic design jobs, for companies to find graphic design professionals, for educators to provide their services to interested parties and so on. We’re excited about it!

Look for the new site in December, hopefully!

Since we launched our new template almost 2 weeks ago, we have been hard at work adding more themes to our site. We have been averaging over five new themes a day and now have over 200 themes on our site. This makes WordPress Themes a top destination to search for a new template for your WordPress installation.

Even though we have more than 200 themes on our site now we don’t plan on stopping here. We plan on adding at least 100 additional high-quality templates. Our goal is to make WordPress Themes the best resource on the Internet to discover the best team for your needs.

With the addition of our most recent themes, we now have themes from over a dozen developers. These companies include Elegant Themes, Studio Press, Page Lines, WPZOOM, and Organic Themes.

On a side note, we want to thank everybody for your positive comments since we launched our new template. Your comments are taken seriously and help improve the user experience for everyone. For instance, we just added some new features that were taken directly from your feedback. We now have a new preview image for all of our templates. Instead of having to go to each theme review page to see a full image of the theme, you can now simply hover over the preview image on the theme listing pages. We also added a small border around all of our images. This makes it easier to see a theme with a white background.

We will continue to improve our site and look forward to any other comments you might have. Please take advantage of our contact us page to submit any comments you might have. Over the next couple of weeks we will be posting even more themes and hope to have over 250 listings by late January or early February.

Thanks again for stopping by.

I’m excited to announce that WordPress Themes reached a major milestone today. We now have over 150 themes listed in our directory. We’ve been hard at work reviewing themes for all the top developers and hope to have 200 themes on the site by the end of January.

WordPress Themes isn’t your typical theme directory. We take painstaking steps to review each and every theme that we post. The theme is demoed, rated, and reviewed by our professional staff and the result is a better experience for all our users.

WordPress themes now has themes listed from over 10 theme developers including Elegant Themes, DIYthemes, PageLines, WooThemes, SoloStream, StudioPress, Templatic, Organic Themes, WPZOOM, and WPZoom.

We are very excited to announce the launch of our new WordPress Themes template. This is a project we have been working on behind the senses for over two months and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

Here are some of the features that I think will greatly benefit our customers and make for a better user experience.

1. The top section is BOLD and tells the visitor what this site is all about. At the time of writing this article, the site has 145 premium WordPress themes. This layout puts that number right in your face so you are aware of the extensive catalog this site has.

2. We have some featured themes listed at the top. These themes are our best selling themes and most flexible themes. Some even allow you to use drag and drop to organize your site.

3. We have 4 categories that our themes fall under now. Many of our visitors are looking for a particular type of theme and this layout allows them to narrow down their choice right away. Our theme categories are Business / CMS themes, Gallery / Photo themes, Magazine / News themes, and Personal / Blog themes.

4. We now display 15 themes per page so your search is much easier. We also are showing much larger preview images to give you a better idea of what the theme looks like before you open it.

5. One of my favorite new features is that we now allow user ratings of themes. Any visitor can rate a theme on a scale of 1-5. The ratings are tabulated on the sidebar in our top 10 list. They are also displayed on each individual theme.

Thanks for stopping by WordPress Themes and please let us know if you have any other suggestions for the site!

Feeds, which some may know as RSS, Atom, or even XML, are almost as important your blog itself. Why? For the simple reason that it contains the most important part of your blog, the content, in a very portable format. With the help of some smart design decisions with your WordPress theme, you can point your readers to keep up with the latest posts on your blog by making your feed subscription link more visible, and well within reach.

Where can you place that “subscribe” link and that orange icon?

At the very top of the page. If you’re really anxious to get your visitors to subscribe, putting a subscribe link at the very top, above everything else, should catch their attention. You can make use of a full-width bar in a contrasting color to grab their attention.

As part of the top navigation. Putting a feed link in your site navigation should be very easy since it’s just adding another item to your menu. But you might want it to be distinguishable from the rest of the links even just a bit.

At the top of the sidebar. A feed link, perhaps even an eye-catching feed icon, should do the trick when using the sidebar. Some people find their subscription links more valuable than other site elements, including the search bar, and put it at the very top.

Where do you put your feed subscription link? Are there any other clever places that can catch the reader’s eye?

I love the <!–more–> tag! It keeps my homepage clean, it lets me customize the text that is used to link to the full article, it encourages more pageviews, and it’s a fantastic tool to “tease” your audience. The WordPress guys really hit a home run on that one.

But it comes with a price. Unfortunately, when you use the <!–more–> tag in your posts, it doesn’t just affect the homepage. It also translates into your feeds. And since it is generally not a good thing to publish partial feeds, we want to make sure that our subscribers are getting the entire post in their feed reader.

That means that you either toss out the <!–more–> tag altogether … along with the benefits … or you could pop the hood of your WordPress installation and do a little work.

In the wp-includes directory and find the file called “post-template.php” In this file, do a quick search for the following code:

if ( preg_match(‘/<!–more(.+?)?–>/’, $content, $matches) ) {

Once you find that code, all you have to do is change that line to this:

if ( preg_match(‘/<!–more(.+?)?–>/’, $content, $matches)
&& !is_feed() ) {

Let me explain what this does. The preg_match is a line of code that searches for stuff. In this instance, it’s looking for that <!–more–>. What we want to do is exclude that line of code from being executed when publishing the feed. So, the addition of && !is_feed() means, only execute the preceding code if you are not (the ! means “not”) outputting the feed.

If you’re not comfortable making changes to your WordPress installation, there are a few plugins that are supposed to do the same thing. I’ve never used them, but try them out and see if they work.

BTW, WordPress may have remedied this already … I’m not really sure. I haven’t seen any indication of this, but they may have. Also, it should be noted that this is a feature, not a bug. Some people prefer to only publish the text before the more tag in their feeds to encourage visiting their site. I personally don’t recommend that, but it’s worth noting.
