Last week, premium WordPress theme company StudioPress.com launched its latest product in the form of a download that focuses on personal blogging websites. The new theme, called Fabric8ted, boasts soft color palettes with four default schemes in all that can be easily switched via the Genesis Framework Control Panel.
StudioPress co-founder Brian Gardner described the newly-launched theme’s characteristics as follows. “The Fabric8ted child theme includes the following features: 4 color styles, 3 layout options, call to action, custom header, featured images, footer widgets, mobile responsive, threaded comments.” Developed by Shannon Dow of EightCrazy Designs, Fabric8ted is not included in the company’s “Pro Plus” All Themes subscription package, but StudioPress stands behind its coding.
The main focus of Fabric8ted is elegantly displaying blog content; which most likely will be personal. The default logo design gives a “hand-written” feel due to its cursive format, and there is room at the top right for a personal introduction; complete with social media account links that will allow readers to sign up to follow or like your entries with one click of their mouse or one tap on their mobile device.
The top navigation bar utilizes drop down menus for sub-categories and leads into the large content slider. This module features hi-definition images on the left with the post’s title, description and Read More link on the right.
Front-end users can click anywhere on the photograph, title or Read More link to go through to the full post.
There is also a “Blurbs” region on the homepage that is laid out in three columns. These come with smaller images, category titles, publication date, author name, text excerpt, and a dedicated link that will take readers directly to the section being featured.
If you are using your blog to sell services or feature a product, there is a separate full-width bar that goes below the blurbs that includes a Call-To-Action button along with a description.
Most newer themes marketed by StudioPress boast a fully responsive design that will automatically adjust content parameters to fit the screen size of mobile devices and tablet computers.
The customized view is of extreme importance considering the large amount of smart phone and tablet users who surf the Internet in today’s world. There is no code work required for implementing this feature, which is available as soon as you download the theme.
Via the Genesis Framework controls, webmasters can easily insert a number of widgets that will attach themselves to the sidebar or footer regions. If you would like to link to your social media accounts, recent posts, archive page, and/or sponsors, using the widgetized areas can greatly increase the balance of your pages while also granting one-click access to important content sections of your website.
All you have to do is go to the Widgets section from the back-end and decide which modules to insert. The Fabric8ted theme will do the rest for you.
This theme also contains Threaded Comments that enable readers to reply directly to a post or to another comment. The comments are tabbed to show who is being replied to.
Custom Page Templates
Fabric8ted contains a number of custom page templates, including a separate blog feed that can be used to publish categorical content or industry news.
The blog page is formatted in a single column, but includes all the information a reader will need to know along with easy access to view the entire entry.
For those who wish to purchase the Fabric8ted child theme, the cost is $79.95 and comes with the Genesis Framework. To find out more about the latest release from StudioPress, visit the Fabric8ted Theme Page or Fabric8ted Live Demo.
