3 Minimal Free WordPress Themes

I’m a huge fan of minimal WordPress designs so I’m pleased to share with you today 3 themes that were recently released in the official WordPress theme directory for free. My favourite is Ascetica, a beautiful blog template that was built on the Theme Hybrid WordPress framework. It could also be used for a photo blog or portfolio.

1. Super Light

A really simple design that was designed with speed in mind. Low on features, Super Light is best suited for a simple blog or tracker for quick updates.

2. Ascetica

An elegant design built on Theme Hybrid. It has a featured post slider on the home page and supports sticky posts. The gallery post type makes it a good option for photo bloggers.

The one thing I don’t like is it’s three column layout. The first column only has a search box in it. As a result of this, the content in the main area feels squashed. With a few simple changes to the stylesheet and templates, you should be able to move the search bar to the top of the sidebar and expand the main content area.

3. The Bootstrap

Designed using HTML5 and CSS3, The Bootstrap is a responsive layout that looks great on any device. Content is really easy to read using the theme and with a few small modifications Bootstrap could be used for a blog.
